Ground Penetrating Radar

The MS3 group has developed and built a mini-array ground penetrating radar (GPR) that consists of an antenna array system, a UWB pulse generator (90ps rise time), a seven-channel signal conditioner and an eight-channel sampling converter.

Figure 1. Mini-array antenna system

The transmit antenna is a dielectric wedge with an 84 cm diameter footprint (at -10dB level). The receive array consists of 13 loops with an 7 cm separation, resulting in an 83 cm swath. The antenna system operational bandwidth is 400 MHz to 4 GHz.

Geozondas' SD-10806 8-channel sampling converter has an analogue bandwidth from 200 MHz to 6 GHz with a 70 dB dynamic range. The flexibility in duration of the observation window and sampling time allows to adjust the system to different ground types and acquisition scenarios.
