MSc thesis project proposal

Species recognition based on deep learning wingbeat classification (16.03.2023)

Project outside the university

Robin Radar Systems

Robin Radar has developed a full phased array to be used as multi-function radar: scanning, tracking, and classification. As our main focus is the classification of birds, aka species recognition, we rely heavily on correctly recording and classifying the wingbeat pattern of the target.

We feel that deep learning can bring a great breakthrough in this application.

Current feature-based algorithms have limited parameters and need hand-tuning.

Image-based deep learning might give better results and more reliable and potentially more specific specie classifications.
